Here at the Dubbo RSL Motel we can provide you with all the information needed on “What to do” and “What to see” in Dubbo and it’s surrounding areas.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo

Taronga Western Plains Zoo is open all year round, home to over 1,000 animals living in spacious open range enclosures.

The option to drive, walk or cycle at your own pace or join a guided tour or listen to talks by the keepers.

Old Dubbo Gaol

Old Dubbo Gaol is a fully restored 1800’s goal that brings to life stories and atmosphere of penal history through animatronics and hologram exhibits.

Japanese Gardens

The Shoyoen Sister City Garden was a gift from Dubbo’s Sister City Minokamo in Japan.

The history and concept of the garden began in 1998. Excavation work started in March 2002 and the garden was opened on the 23rd November 2002 – the 153rd anniversary of the founding of Dubbo and 13 years after the establishment of ‘Sister City relations’ between Minokamo and Dubbo.

Wellington Caves

The Wellington Caves are located 8km south of Wellington NSW. Guided tours are available to the Cathedral Cave, Gaden Cave and the Phosphate Mine.

Be amazed by the beautiful calcite crystal formations like stalagmites, stalactites, columns, flowstones and coral.

Whilst touring the Phosphate Mine, visitors will be enthralled by the story of the mine and the megafauna bones it secretly holds within its muddy walls.

Dubbo Observatory

At the Dubbo Observatory you can view the planets, stars, and galaxies through telescopes at night including our new large 17″ telescope.

Be informed and entertained with the 75 minute program that commences with a presentation by local astronomer, Peter Starr, then venture out into the night sky and view the stars through the telescopes.

Astrophotography is also available with select camera brands. A gift shop is available where you can purchase astronomy books and gifts.

Dundullimal Homestead

Dundullimal is Australia’s oldest timber slab homestead and Dubbo’s oldest building open to the public. Built in the early 1840s Dundullimal is a finely crafted, rustic home with its interior remarkably sophisticated for its time.

The property reflects the essential elements of rural life on a large, isolated property during the nineteenth century.

Set on 4 hectares Dundullimal is surrounded by farmland but only 5 minutes from Dubbo city centre (2km past the Western Plains Zoo).
